What's new Today.
There has been a huge overhaul of the whole website over the last 2 weeks, which is still ongoing. We are trying to streamline the code in the background so that everything works a little smother and faster. We have been busy writing new pieces and in the coming months there will be more going onto every instrument. Where a piece is available on more than one instrument (which is almost always, unless its piano), it will always be in the same key so that people can play together. We strongly advise that you regularly refresh the main pages so that you don’t miss any new content.
Happy Playing
Another couple of busy days, there were a few small bugs in the system. A few of the band pieces were not displaying the way the were
supposed to, and some of the buttons required to clicked in a particular way.
As far as I can tell these problems have now been fixed,
and we have a new fun piece (Jumping Time) in the Junior band section.
In the coming few days we shall be working on some new Piano,
Band and Recorder pieces. We sincerely hope you enjoy these.
If anyone finds something within the sight that’s doesn’t seem to be
working properly please send us an email.
To contact Michael (in the UK) email michael@daviesmusic.net
or to contact John
(in Jamaica) email John@daviesmusic.net
We would also like to here from anyone who has a request for something they would like us
to include.
After much interest and comments from students, Michael has just spent many many hours updating the beginners music theory section, which
was one of the first sections posted on the website. Much more of the theory is now playable including the keyboard (monophonic)!
Between the 3 sections of music theory, most of what is required up to ABRSM grade 5 is now covered on the website…………….HAVE FUN
We continue to make small changes to things in the background. The computers and software that we use to create this sight have all been upgraded during the last month. We now have better audio mastering and slightly sweeter music engraving.
We have a busy schedule of righting and arranging planned for the next few months, so you can expect to see some more new music soon.
After a bit of a break we are working on some more new pieces. We are introducing more into the piano section, a couple of new band pieces and we are looking at more singing for our younger members. More info soon.
Quite a big change again today, we now have a Piano Section. John and I have been working hard to improve the Music Theory Page and in doing so have created some nice little pieces which are good for now pianists. Today I completed the design of the page and got it working. There are already several more pieces to come in the next few days.
Quite a big change in Band Practse, it now has two parts. First is the Junior and Training Band, and second the Senior Band. As the names suggest the pieces in the Senior Band are suited to more advanced players.
Check out "My First March" in the recorder lessons, and theory page 3 is growing.
Theory Update. We have made a few minor updates to the theory pages.
Recorder and Band Update. We have a new arrangement of canon in D by Pachelbel.
In with the recorder lessons there is a nice 3 part appangement of the basic backing, and in Band Practise there is the main melody transposed for us all to play.
Theory Update. We have some more theory practise pages.
Have Fun.
Blues Band Update. We have a new improvisiation piece in A Major called Fox in the Hen House.
Practise Band Update. We have a new march Imperial Echoes.
Theory Update. This morning the theory pages have been updated.
New Piece in Band Practise. We are trying to make this site useful to more advanced players as well as beginners. To that end we are going to ad more content to the Blues Band and to Band Practise. In the Band Practise section you will find several marches, most of which are new engravings of the original parts. Some of these are harder than others. Where there is a piece arranged by daviesmusic.net it is usually arranged for intermediate amateur players. where there is an original with no arranger these were written for professional players! In time if there is a demand we may well write some easier parts for these, so that everyone can play along.
From John in Jamaica. I had a first piano lesson today with a four year old boy. I used the recorder lesson 1 and 2 from the website after teaching him the names of the notes. In 10 minutes he was reading and playing along with A Nother Song and A Rock Song. Going to try the website’s recorder lessons with a first violin lesson soon. Just got a nice 1/2 size violin!
New Piece in Band Practise. Washington Post March.
Minor Update. as requested "Happy Birthday" in band practise now only plays through once.
We now have 3 pages of music theory Quizzes.
From John in Jamaica. So pleased all the approx. 150 new students this month are having fun with the updated music theory section of the web site.
John
Sorry for some technical problems yesterday The sound on the theory page stopped working. This was due to an error by our editing team failing to check the links after moving the files location.
The file was moved to simplify (on the technical side) the expanding Music Theory section.
We are introducing some example exam papers and questions. These like everything else are clickable which should be a bit of fun.
Have a play, there may well be more there than meets the eye.
P.S. We are very happy with Fur Elise.
AGM NEWS We have decided to include some more folk songs.
These will be coming soon to augmenting the Rounds to a new TRAD section.
HOT NEWS. The AGM of daviesmusic.net is now to be held tomorrow (probably at the local Jerk Center).
We have a long list of exciting new things to talk about. More Soon.
Just finished music camp in 21 to 23rd July at Northgate High in Ocho Rios.
I used the web site to introduce scales, rounds and recorder classes for beginners. We practised singing to "Land of the Silver Birch", with guitars and keyboard making appropriate accompaniment.
We advanced the recorder proficiency with "Three Blind Mice" and even learned a little French with "Brother John".
John.
This is our new blog where we will be posting updates, information and storys about the world of daviesmusic.net.
It has now been nine months since we decided to put together this website. All three of us teach music and perform regularly. We have each found that the initial teaching material available often needs to be amended, altered or changed in some way to make a good lesson.
Bearing that in mind we all had some ideas of what resources we would like to use ourselves. The guiding principle behind daviesmusic.net is to try to make the regular practise we as musicians have to do a bit more fun and enjoyable.
So I (Michael) shut myself away with a laptop, a brain running wild with ideas, a book on html and css (whatever they are), a fresh pack of Blue Mountain Coffee Beens and regular deliveries of my favourite take out, Dosa (south Indian street food), which coincidentally is the same as that of the Google Boss.
By the end of February 2021, I had the beginnings of several sections of the website.
As a result of work I’ve done in the past, I have lots of march card sets which are my own engraving, most of which are royalty free. So I adapted some of them and created tracks to play along too. I used the first couple of those to help finalise the design of the music for the site.
I then turned to scales. In time, hopefully soon, daviesmusic.net will have a complete set of instrument scales to grade 3. Playing Scales is very good practise but can be uninteresting so I have made some simple backing tracks to play along with. We have deliberately chosen to only include one version of the minor scale where the examination boards allow a choice. The speed of the scales is the speed set by the examination boards and its also good practise not to rush them and play them nicely, or maybe a better word would be musically.
These are still early days for daviesmusic.net, Recorder lessons, Percussion Group, Blues Band, Rounds, Band Practise, Scales and Rounds all have much more to come.
Have fun Keep playing and enjoy.
Michael.
